VA 22936 Canine Campus Policies, Rules, and Information We are excited to have this opportunity to share our knowledge of dog training and dog behavior with you. We hope that you will enjoy taking our class as much as we will enjoy teaching it. About
Our Training Method
All of our classes stress the relationship between the dog and handler. The dog is only half the team! We use food rewards, toys, and praise in all of our training classes. We are clicker-trainers and train using only positive reinforcement - no force or punishment or any of the old-fashioned methods of jerking, pulling, or hurting your dog to make them comply. Training in a positive way leads to a better-trained and happier dog. You and your dog will enjoy training together because it's fun . . . and that means you will train more often. Our classes are designed to teach you how to teach your dog the skills he needs to be successful. It is imperative that you practice often at home and in various other settings to help him succeed. Classes
Our classes are limited to a maximum of 6 dog/handler teams. We will have an Instructor and Assistant Instructor with all classes, thereby allowing us to occasionally split into smaller groups so that you can have lots of individual attention. We will also make ourselves accessible to you outside of class for extra help, if needed. What
You Need To Bring to Each Class
· High value treats cut in tiny, pea-sized pieces (i.e. chicken, hot dogs, string cheese, cheddar cheese, roast beef, etc.) · A bait bag or fanny pack in which to keep the treats · A flat buckle collar, Martingale collar, Gentle Leader Head Collar, or Sensation Harness · 4 ft. leash We sell Premier Martingale Collars, Gentle Leader Head Collars, Sure-Fit Harnesses, Sensation Harnesses and leashes . . . and we do take special orders. We also sell clicker-style bait bags by Doggone Good. Leash
Rule
Please keep your dog on leash at all times unless instructed otherwise. The Leash Rule goes into effect as soon as you take your dog out of the car! Dog
Etiquette
Not all dogs like to have another dog greet them while they’re on leash. Please do not allow your dog to greet another dog unless you’ve asked permission from the handler first. However, once inside the building, we ask that you refrain from allowing your dog to visit other dogs unless instructed otherwise. In consideration of all dogs training at Canine Campus, we do not allow dogs in heat in classes. Collars
All dogs will wear a well-fitting buckle collar, Martingale (no-slip) collar, Gentle Leader head collar, or harness. No choke, prong or shock collars allowed. Curbing
your dog
Please by sure that your dog has ample opportunity to relieve himself before entering the building. Clean
up
All handlers will clean up after their own dogs, regardless of where on the property you are. If you forget to bring plastic bags to clean up with, we will be happy to provide you with one. We request that you do not allow your dog to relieve himself in the fenced-in area. Aggressive
Dogs
Our classes are designed for dogs that do not have serious aggression problems. If your dog has an aggression problem, group classes may not be the appropriate situation for you and your dog. Please speak with us prior to registration and we will try to help you with suggestions or referrals. Dismissal
We reserve the right to dismiss aggressive dogs and/or dogs or handlers that are disruptive to our class at any time. Dogs that show signs of serious aggression will be dismissed immediately. If your dog has an aggression problem, please discuss this with us prior to registration. Refunds
If it is necessary to dismiss you at the first class, we will refund your money. Otherwise, no refunds will be granted during the class session unless you or your dog must drop out for medical reasons. If that is the case, we politely request that you provide us with a note from your doctor or vet – whichever is applicable. Fun Training your dog should be fun. We hope that our classes will not only be informative, but that it will be fun for you and your dog. If it’s not, please tell us! Questions?
